Darkness met his eyes as Sadiq looked around. The curtains were opend and showed that it was still dark out, and the only sounds that could be heard were his own breathing and crickets chirping from outside his window. With a sigh he sat up and checked his clock, it was only two hous since he had tried to sleep and it wasn't working. He hated to admit it but he needed something to help, it wasn't good for him to run on as little sleep or no sleep as he was getting, especially with his powers and trying to run a club at night. Looking over at the clock and noticing it was seven in the morning, he sighed and set up.
Getting out of bed, he got dressed and headed down to the kitchen. Fixing himself a cup of tea, he drank is slowly as he ate a piece of tost. Thinking of what he needed to do, he decided that the apothecary was probably the best bet. Finishing his tea, he got up and cleaned a little before he could head out to the shop.
After a few hours had passed, he decided to head out. Locking the door behind him, he walked in the general direction of the shop. He noticed he was zoing out and had to shake his head multiple times in order to stay focused. Finally he reached the shop and opened the door, hearing the shop bell over the door ring in the process.

A young man with pale blonde hair pinned back on one side and dull blue eyes was wiping off a counter. He wouldn’t have had to if he had done it last night but it had been a very long day and he wanted nothing more to go home and sleep. It had slipped his mind however that when he came back in the morning the mess would still be there for him to clean. Poor foresight on his part.
Despite not caring for the clean-up, which would always be done relatively quick, he really loved his apothecary. The Government was extremely strict on who gets what medications and they charged a ridiculous rate for them. Lukas liked being able to help without nearly draining their pockets and an added bonus was that herbal medicines didn’t have quite the same side effects as pharmaceutical medication.
Hearing the shop bell ring brought Lukas out of his thoughts. “Hallo, welcome to Herbal Healing. How may I help?” He said in his soft voice, his face completely blank.

Closing the door behind him, he looked around and inhaled deeply, enjoying the smell of herbs. It wasn't often he got to enjoy the smell as he worked around metal and alcohol a lot, it was rather refreshing. Maybe if he could smell something like this at night..well, the early morning, before he went to bed, he would be able to have a restful sleep.
Hearing someone talking to him, he turned around and smiled at the young man he saw standing behind the counter. He was a rather gentle looking man and had gentle and trustworthy eyes...always a good first sign that he could trust someone...well, he would have to as he didn't trust doctors to help him..he believed in natural remedies anyway.
"Yes, I hope you can, I'm having problems sleeping, and I don't trust the sleeping remedies from those government doctors...probably put something in it to make you addicted." He had mumbled the last part, more talking to himself than anyone else.

Lukas eyed the man who had entered his store. He was a tall man, taller than Lukas that much was obvious. He had dark skin contrasting Lukas’ very pale skin. The man also had dark hair and dark eyes compared to Lukas. Physically the man seemed to contrast to everything about Lukas. Then again this city was full of people from different ethnicities. Lukas himself was full Norwegian descent so who was he to judge?
“It depends on what you want. Do you want incense, tea, candles, etc.?” Lukas voice was quiet as always. But really he couldn’t do anything until the guy specified what he wanted? “Do you want something to help you relax into sleep or do you want something that will knock you out?” Hearing the man’s comment about the government made his eyebrow rise a bit. “You’re actually right they do.” Lukas admitted as he started going over herb in his mind that he knew that helped sleep.

Turkey looked around the store again relaxed, though he didn’t know the others name, it was not necessarily needed. He had a calming influence it seemed and Sadiq was already relaxing. He didn’t find it suspicious, many people had who worked with plants seemed to be able to calm others down just by being in their presence. Eyes landing back on the man behind the counter, he noticed that he looked small…well, a lot people seemed small compared to him, though he wouldn’t let that influence how acted around the other, he was sure the other had some hidden surprises.
After thinking about what the herbalist asked, he nodded to himself. “Not candles or anything like that, I wouldn’t be able to sleep with the worry of the falling over and setting fire to something. I think I would prefer a tea or something of the sorts. I’ll just need written directions for it; I’ll never remember the directions otherwise.” Hearing the other confirm his suspicions, he cocked an eyebrow. “They do huh? Good thing I prefer herbal remedies then. Hope I didn’t offend you with that comment, I didn’t think I actually said that out loud.” Thinking for a minute, he spoke again. “Is there anything I can help you with? I imagine you get plenty of business in here.”

Lukas thought for a moment tea it was. Honestly Lukas, himself, preferred tea. His mind raced as he went through which one would seem to help the man. The first that came to mind was chamomile. He wrote down the directions: one, put dried chamomile flowers into a cup; two, pour in hot water; three, allow to infuse for three minutes; four, strain into another cup using a tea strainer; five, drink if you want you can add honey or lemon juice.
Lukas spoke as he wrote, “I’m not surprised. Many do.” He straightened up and handed the paper to the man and went to a shelf and pulled out a small container dried chamomile flowers. “That will be 5.90. Even doctors come here.” Lukas face shifted a little bit to show confusion, it helped that he tilted his head as he tried to figure this man out. “Why? No one has offered to do that before.”

Turkey took the paper from the man and read through it. It seemed easy enough to follow, but he’d see how it went when he had just gotten back from work at four in the morning and tried to make it. Hearing his price, he blinked…that was a lot cheaper than he was expecting it to be. With a grin, he reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. Opening it up, he pulled out eight dollars and laid it on the counter.
Sticking the paper into his wallet had to shake his head. Really, doctors who worked for the government came to see him? Well, he must be really good at herbalism then. “Why not? It looks like it’s just you in here and I’m sure there’s more work than you could possibly do in one day…and I just realized how awkward that question was…you don’t even know me and here I am offering to help you. You can just ignore that if you want.” Turkey chuckled to himself and shrugged.

Lukas took the eight dollars and counted the man’s change. He slid the two dollars and dime back to the man. “It’s only half a pound so you can do a two-week trial. If it works you can come back for more.” Lukas shrugged.
The man seemed honest enough, but honestly Lukas wasn’t very good at reading people even people described as being open books. It was such an unfamiliar request. Honestly no one had ever bothered to ask him to help him. So why would this man, this stranger? Upon hearing the man’s reply, it made a bit more sense but still what made him different from other people. “It’s fine.” Now the man seemed awkward so Lukas held out his hand. “I’m Lukas Thomassen. If you want to help you can unpack that box in front of that case on the very top shelf. I can’t reach without a step stool.” He said bluntly.

Sadiq took one look at the money the man slid across the counter and looked back up, leaving it there. “That sounds like a good plan, but I’m sure it will work, you know your way around the plants more than I do after all. What is it any way?” He looked at the jar that he pulled the flowers from and to the bag…he wondered if it was something he would recognize the name of.
Seeing Lukas hold out his hand in introduction, he took his hand in a firm handshake. “I’m Sadiq Adnan, it’s nice to meet you Lukas” he replied honestly. He always did enjoy making friends even if he didn’t make them often. Letting of the others hand, a small part of his mind noticed how his hand had completely covered the others and that their coloring was so different…he didn’t notice that before… not that it was that important, it was just a difference. Walking over to the shelf where he indicated, he lifted the box down and brought it over to the counter again. “You’ll have to tell me where to put the stuff, I would hate to put it somewhere then you have to go and fix it after I leave.”

Why wasn’t he taking his change? Everybody always took their change and then double counted it to make sure they got the right amount. He watched as the man, no Sadiq, looked at the herb. “It’s chamomile if you are curious.” Sometimes Lukas forgot it wasn’t common to look at a herb and know automatically what it is.
Sadiq was seriously confusing Lukas. Why did he care? Lukas was almost positive he had better things to do with his time, like sleep, than spend time with a quiet apothecary. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he tried to figure Sadiq out. He noticed their very opposite coloring again as they shook hands and was slightly amused by it. Lukas walked over to the box and pulled it open. “I’ll hand them too you and you can put them up across the shelf and once you reach the end, start a new row.” Lukas grabbed the first container he wanted put up and handed it to Sadiq.

Hearing the name of the herb, he nodded. He had heard of it before and it should work well. He had seen Lukas look at the money, but he still didn’t pick it up, he was going to leave it right where it was. He guessed that the other never had gotten a tip before, and debated with himself if he should say anything about it. Hearing the instructions, he nodded and headed back to the shelf and took the first container and started the row on the shelf. He had to wonder if he was the only one who worked here, or if he had a part time person that helped him with everything. With a slight shake of his head, he kept quiet about it, it wasn’t his business and he was already being too pushy with helping the way he was now. He racked his brain for a good conversation topic, but he couldn’t think of any. “How did you get involved with this business?”

The change was still there. Why wasn’t he taking it, the weirdo? Normal people took their change when it was handed or placed on the table to them. But this guy was just leaving it there. “Aren’t you going to take your change?” Lukas asked him as he handed him another container. Lukas noticed Sadiq’s eyes wander around the store. “I’m the only one here.”
Lukas was startled by the question no one had ever asked him that before. It had been a long time since anyone had tried to get close to him. Normally most people were put off by his blank face and got nervous and stayed away from him. It didn’t help that he was not a people person and was very quiet anyway. The only person that was close to him was his little brother. “My brother was a very sickly child. We couldn’t afford to take him to government doctors so I did all the research I could on what could help him and came across herbs. They helped a lot and weren’t nearly as expensive as the doctors. I found I had a talent with him so I opened this shop to help others like my brother.”

He took the next container that Lukas handed him and cocked his head slightly to the side as heard the question. Did he not understand what it meant if someone left change on purpose somewhere after they had just bought something. He shook his head and put the container next to the previous one. "It's a tip for your help." Hearing the other say that no one else worked there, he nodded again.
"The love of a brother, it has the power to make people do many things. That's something I understand very well and something we have in common. Is your brother doing any better?" He understood it completely now, at least he had found a calling out of it. He hoped that his brother was doing better. He wouldn't know what he would have done if his brother would have been sick a lot as a child, or even now. "You're quite noble, I'm not sure how many other people would set up shop out of something he did to help his brother."

Why was he getting a tip? He was just doing his job. It wasn’t like he had done anything great that warranted a tip. “Why would you give me a tip? I haven’t done anything to deserve it.” This Sadiq seemed intent on confusing him. Why couldn’t he just act normal? At least then Lukas would know what to expect and not feel so awkward.
“He is, he still has moments where he is weak, but he has been very distant lately so I honestly can’t truly say.” That stung Lukas’ heart a bit. He loved his little brother more than anything and for him to be pushing him away so much, just hurt. Of course most of this didn’t show on his face, unless you knew him very well. “How am I noble? I found a talent and opened this shop. That’s all there is to it. The Government isn’t very fair to those who need help so as I have been there its wrong for me not to help.”

He looked at Lukas out of the corner of his eyes and shrugged. He felt like he should tip the other and he usually went with his gut feelings. “I tipped you because I wanted to. You helped me for a lot cheaper that the government would have and this way is a lot safer than I’m sure their methods are, so why not tip you. Even with the tip, it’s still very not even close to what I would have had to pay for the doctor’s appointment and the medicine together.” He didn’t see how it was a big deal, it was under ten dollars total for everything and if it worked, it would be money well spent. Even if it didn’t, it wasn’t a big loss.
“I’m sure he is doing well, and depending on his age, it is normal for most to go through a rebellious stage where they don’t want to talk to their siblings, I went thought it myself, but thankfully my brother hasn’t reached it yet.” He placed the next container on the shelf and turned to look at him. “It is noble because not everyone has that same mind set, very few these days actually. The fact that you still have enough morality to see it wrong not to help when you are able shows that you are a very kind and noble man. We need more people like you around the city. Maybe then it would be a better place." He turned back to the shelf, slightly confused ast to why he had said all of that, but it didn't matter, what was said was said, and he hoped that the other didn't hate him for saying it.
